About Phil
Phil started his career in strategy consulting. He cut his teeth on numerous commercial due diligence, strategy and operational improvement projects before moving into the mortgage industry at Bradford & Bingley, a FTSE100 specialist lender and high street bank. He was rapidly promoted to Operations Director in Estate Agency and Regional Director in the Retail Bank, responsible for 60 branches and 300 staff in the Southern region branch network.
From there, Phil developed into leadership roles at the AA, and digital research pioneer Research Now, where he became EVP and Managing Director EMEA through a period of rapid growth and change, including a merger with the leading US competitor to become global market leader. Phil then moved on to become UK MD of the leading UK online research firm YouGov.
More recently, Phil spent 5 years at Experian leading the consumer mortgage strategy, creating the investment case for Experian’s £44m investment in L&C – the UK’s largest Directly Authorised mortgage broker. Phil sat on L&C’s Board as investor observer, and led joint projects including transformation to a hybrid digital model and post-Covid operational recovery.
Phil’s specialisms include strategy development, performance improvement, organisation restructuring, change management, digital transformation and M&A support.
Outside work Phil keeps busy parenting 5 children of different vintages, and is a keen home cook and wine enthusiast. Phil blogs recipe ideas for the benefit of his older children and their friends and is writing a cookbook for students. He exercises just enough to allow him to pursue his interests in food and wine.
